All-union association « Optimalist » was created in 1986. In 1999 St-Petersburg’s department was renamed as the charity organization Sobriety. The aim of the organization is to provide pedagogical and technical support to people suffering from alcoholic, nicotine and narcotic dependence applying a method developed in 1986 by a biology scientist whose name is G. A. Shitchko.
The basis of the method relies on the psycho-pedagogical influence in human mental process that leads to voluntary renunciation to using of alcohol, tobacco and narcotics.
According to this method was developed a program of courses and exercises, which help people to overcome their dependence on harmful habits.
During the period 1986-2005, the charity organization Sobriety received more than 10'000 people in its program. Statistics show that the majority of participants to the course gave up freely their addiction to alcohol quit smoking and shook off their dependence on drugs.
The charity organization Sobriety’s funds are partially used to finance publication meant to the participants of the course such as: methods, brochures and supplements, which are also published in newspapers and magazines.
The charity organization Sobriety dispenses “safe conducts” and letters to narcotic treatment centers and hospitals of St-Petersburg. Those places equally distribute Sobriety’s information about healthy living
